Skål Club of the Year

The Skål International Club of the Year Award is presented annually to acknowledge Clubs that have distinguished themselves through exceptional activity, innovation, and commitment both within and beyond the organisation, while exemplifying the principles of friendship, professionalism, and support for the global tourism industry that define Skål International.

            Who may enter?
            All Skål Clubs worldwide that meet the eligibility requirements listed below are considered for participation in the Skål Club of the Year Award. Each year, Skål International Headquarters conducts a thorough review to determine the eligible Clubs in accordance with the established criteria.
            Qualifying requirements

            To be eligible for consideration, Clubs must satisfy the following criteria during the applicable qualification period:

            1. Payment of annual international membership fees by 28 February.

            2. Achievement of a membership retention rate of at least 85%, or a minimum of 90% for Clubs with 100 or more members, calculated from 1 January 2026 to 30 April 2027 (Skål Student members are excluded from this calculation).

            3. Contribution to the Florimond Volckaert Fund (From 1 January 2026 to 30 April 2027)

            4. Contribution to the Membership Development Fund (From 1 January 2026 to 30 April 2027)

            5. Active engagement on at least one social media platform.

            6. Adoption of the Skål International corporate brand identity using the official logo.
            Presentation

            Eligible Clubs are invited to submit a video presentation highlighting their achievements, initiatives to recruit and retain members, efforts to promote the Skål brand, and charitable or sustainable activities undertaken from January 2026 to 30 April 2027. Deadline for submission of this video: 11 September 2027.  

            Video specifications and submission requirements are communicated by the General Secretariat through the official invitation to participate.

            Clubs may campaign in support of their candidacy; however, participants are encouraged to exercise moderation and refrain from excessive campaigning.

            Voting

            Eligible Clubs participate in the selection of the Skål Club of the Year through an electronic voting process conducted prior to the Skål International Annual General Assembly (AGA).

            Clubs with up to 65 Active, Allied, Life, Retired, and Young Skål Professional members are entitled to one vote, while clubs with 66 or more members in these categories are entitled to two votes.

            Voting is conducted through the Election Buddy platform, and instructions regarding access to the ballot are communicated to Club Officers in due course.

            The Skål Club of the Year distinction is awarded to the club receiving the highest number of votes.

            Award Ceremony 2027
            The Skål Club of the Year Award is presented during the Opening Ceremony of the Skål World Congress, where the winning Club is formally recognised for its outstanding achievements and contribution to the values and objectives of Skål International. The name of the winner is kept confidential until the Awards ceremony. 

            The Skål Club of the Year 2027 Award will be presented during the Opening Ceremony of the 86th Skål World Congress in Cádiz, Spain.
            Winner of the Skål Club of the Year 2026

            Skål International Veracruz, Mexico, was honoured with the title of Skål Club of the Year 2026 during the Skål World Congress held in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. 

            The Club received a distinctive crystal trophy and a certificate granting one complimentary Double Congress Registration in First Class for the 2027 Skål World Congress (airfare not included).
