Skål International Kuala Lumpur is “Egg-cited” to initiate an “Egg-cellent” Charity Drive!
During a recent visit to Kuala Lumpur by Dr. Valmiki Hari Krishnan of our fellow Skål International Hyderabad Club, more than 10 trays of eggs were donated to the Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on 19 September 2026.
To help establish Malaysia’s first Egg Bank, Skål International Kuala Lumpur Club President Mahendran Daniel and Executive Committee Director of P.R. & Communications Rowena Hawkins joined the Rotary Club of Melawati (KL) Egg Bank Initiative, expanding the project through the Club’s participation.
The Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home was chosen as the initiative’s beneficiary. Through the scheme, its resident children will receive weekly egg donations to support their nutritional needs.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen, the dedicated caregivers of more than 40 orphaned children, warmly welcomed the visitors and gratefully accepted the donation. The home needs two trays of eggs each day to supplement the children’s nutrition.

Working with the Rotary Club of Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, President Mahendran has shown exemplary commitment to sustaining this meaningful initiative and improving the lives of those in need.
A similar project is already operating in Sri Lanka. The Skål International Club of Colombo initiated it through Ms. Jovanka Jayaweera, daughter-in-law of Skål International Director Mrs. Dushy Jayaweera, and the Skål Club of Kuala Lumpur, led by President Mahendran, supported the Colombo initiative with a couple of contributions.
With the campaign now active in Sri Lanka, India, and Malaysia, we hope it will inspire other Skål Clubs across the region and internationally to launch similar projects in their communities.
How “egg-straordinary”—and “eggs-emplary”—is that?
