Skål International Kuala Lumpur Club Walks the Walk…Twice!

President Mahendran Daniel once again, for the second time in ten months, led the Club Members and Fraternity followers in another Walkathon!

President Mahen and Skål International Kuala Lumpur Club 179 don’t just talk the talk.  He, the Club’s members and the Club’s followers also walk the walk…

Starting off at a most unholy hour on a cool Saturday morning, the enthusiasts started off with a warm-up exercise led by the President, before commencing a 6 km walk in and around the perimeter of the University of Malaysia’s grounds, starting at the Alumnae Hall, for a full circuit and returning to the same starting point.

The less physically capable amongst the group proceeded to the Alumnae’s F&B outlet, appropriately called “Rohana’s Kitchen” as it is owned and operated by Skålleague Rohana Ramli,  to kick-start the arguably best outstanding Malaysian-style breakfast Rohana’s Kitchen had on offer, with a dishware containing delectable Malaysian favourites like “Nasi Lemak”, consisting of a concoction of rice steamed in coconut milk accompanied with all the condiments of fried anchovies, hot spicy sambals, cucumber slices and strips of omelette, “Lontong” another Malaysian favourite of rice dumplings soaked in a tasty vegetable coconut flavoured gravy, their signature Teochew porridge consisting of rice porridge with a buffet of accompanying condiments, Roti Canai, a Malaysian-Indian flatbread served with two vegetarian curries, and, another twelve local favourites encompassing culinary fare indigenous to the multi-racial society of Malaysians.

All this was duly accompanied by the indigenous and ubiquitous ‘kopi’ and ‘teh’ ‘tarik ’, affectionately known as “pulled” coffee and tea, both of which are made by pouring the prepared respective beverage between two enamel mugs, alternating one mug and the other, with the arms high, hence emulating a visual “pulling” effect.

By the time the exhausted but happy athletes wandered into the Kitchen in progressive disorderliness, they were ready with a heightened appetite to savour all the delectable fare prepared for these well-deserving walkers.  Last to enter was President Mahen, who, in keeping with his admirable sense of responsibility and authority, ensured the “leave no man behind” adage was well in place.

The ensuing fellowship and camaraderie flowed freely and once satiated, the group slowly dispersed, but not before President Mahen called for the Skål toast, with kopi & teh tarik brews raised high in celebration of the Skål global Fraternity.

Through events like these, the Skål International Kuala Lumpur Club not only supports the wellness of its members and followers but also supports and favours Skål Members’ business outlets over non-member venues.

Another further advantage of this Event: all participating Skålleagues attending the 56th Asia Area Congress in Kuala Lumpur in 2027 now have read about and can imagine a glimpse of the local Malaysian breakfast fare they can expect to savour there!
