These figures clearly show an alarming signal that our fund needs continued support.  As we all know the cost of modern medicines continues to rise and, in many cases, even those with insurance cover cannot meet the treatment costs as the insurers cap their grants and/or refuse to cover a number of leading-edge medications that if used can save a life rather than provide palliative care

Our current operating accounts as of July show: € 37,004.18 and US$20,080.12 As you can see, we are in the situation that unless we receive a considerable increase in donations, we may not be able to meet all grant requests until one of the term deposits accounts come due mid next year – and even then breaking a term deposit will see a reduction in the amount of interest the Fund receives each year – a spiral down we cannot allow. 

We ask all Skålleagues – are you able to donate the cost of one cup of coffee (say €5.00) each year to the FVF? 

If all 12,000 members did that, we would have an annual income of €60,000 over and above the general donations – that would ensure we can meet the needs of our members in distress. Imagine the cost of one cup of coffee could save a fellow Skålleagues life!

We ask all club Presidents to create awareness among their members that the FVF is their “in-house benevolent fund” for distressed members worldwide.  Whether due to unforeseen health issues, accidents, or other personal crises, the fund aims to provide financial assistance to those members who have dedicated their lives to the travel and tourism industry. 

This support not only honours the legacy of Florimond Volckaert, who was the first President of Skål  International and the founding Coordinating Trustee of the Fund, but also strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation within our organisation, ensuring that we stand by one another in times of hardship.
